Tips in Art and Mirror Hanging
Art, picture or mirror hanging seems to be a difficult job for some women. They consider the task as a man’s project. They feel intimidated with the idea of hammering, measuring and making calculations. But if you do not have a man in the house and you have just purchased a new art work to design your house, do not worry. You can do the project on your own. All you need is to follow these simple tips and for sure, you can successfully do it.
Tip #1: Make measurements
The first step in successfully hanging your mirror, artwork or picture is to make the correct measurements. You should begin by getting the dimensions of the outer frame of your artwork. Use a tape measure or a meter stick to do this. You can also make a template of the picture that you intend to hang. Secure the template using adhesives in the exact area where you intend to hang it. This technique gives you an overview of how your artwork will look like after the picture hanging task. Plus, you do not need to place one big picture in a small area or a too small frame for a broad blank wall. By making measurements, you will find the most appropriate area to do the mirror hanging.
Tip #2: Determine the number of pieces to hang.
You might have been too excited buying artworks and you end up with more pieces than you actually intended. If this is the case, you need to organize them well so as not to ruin their purpose. You can start grouping them based on the theme that you want to portray. Remember, even your walls should speak some story. You can only make it happen if you know how to do the mirror, art or picture hanging. You do not have to place all matching sizes together. The key in making a statement is to balance the impact of the frame. Allot around 2 inches distance between large frames while half an inch is sufficient for smaller pictures.
Tip #3: Art, picture and mirror hanging should be at eye level.
Art hanging should always be at eye level. If you go too high, the viewer’s vision will just be on the wall and not in your piece of investment. If you intend to place it over your sofa, measure about three to six inches between the edge of the chair and the bottom part of the artwork. Do not leave a lot of space in the wall.
Tip #4: Consider the wall material and the weight of the mirror
Another important consideration is to pay attention to the material of the wall. Concrete walls are more stable and thus, they can accommodate heavier objects. If you plan to work on wood walls, be sure to get lighter artworks. You should also use quality screws or hooks to hold the frames well. Use 2 hooks per artwork or picture. They provide added security compared with other items that hung from a single source.
Tip #5: Get assistance
Assistance is crucial for you to finish the art hanging task. Your helper will support the frame while you mount it on the wall. She will ensure that your precious mirror or picture will not fall while working on the mirror hanging project.
